The Librarian

Watch this film and tell me if you aren't moved to become a librarian.

A more lengthy and absurd post is in store, so stay tuned.

I actually watched the whole deal. I wasn't aware that librarians were expected to compile lists of material on a subject...isn't that the researcher's job?

It depends. Most researchers will be able to compile a list of resources themselves (i.e. specific articles, books, etc.) and will just need help from the librarian in locating copies of them. However, librarians do still help researchers compile those sources in some cases, especially in a corporate setting.

In fact, some academic librarians who specialize in a particular subject area have created lists of good resources (mostly for broad subjects) and put them online for public access - Ohio University's Librarians even create wikis with this info, which I think is pretty cool.

The technology has changed drastically, along with much of what a librarian today does, but some of those core duties will always remain.
